Illustration and Drawing Faculty member Kurt Hollomon is back in the classroom after a summer that included teaching in the International Urban Sketchers Symposium held in Portland and hosted by PNCA’s Continuing Education. For three days the College’s Pearl District neighborhood became a canvas as participants from around the world did what they do best—observe and sketch the wonder of the day to day. Hollomon is a regular contributor to the Urban Sketchers blog, which features over 100 invited artists from around the world who share a passion for drawing on location.
After the Symposium, Untitled took time to sit down with Hollomon to talk about his work as a teacher, artist and designer and to also take a peek in some of his many, many sketchbooks. Hollomon, who as a teacher says he is often inspired to go in new directions by his students, teaches by example and is never seen without a sketchbook in hand.
